VIVA’s range of Glass Tiles

SICIS
VIVA mainly carries high end tiles and our finest manufactured glass (after the handmade Smalti) is the Italian Sicis glass that is some of the finest quality mosaic tiles in the world. Sicis produces tiles in 3 lines:

Sicis Iridium are a dazzling subtle pallet of oxide coloured tiles coated with an oil on water effect fused to the surface of the glass
Sicis Smalto based on original smalti recipes are opaque and richly coloured tiles
Sicis Waterglass are translucent tiles with a built in crackle effect, again the pallet is beautiful & stylish

The Sicis tiles are 1.5 x 1.5 cm and 3-3.5 mm thick, beautifully coloured and easy to cut to precision with wheeled nippers. They are water, frost and UV resistant and will not fade. The three lines can be mixed in you mosaic work as the pallets of the 3 lines complement each other. Mixing in the translucent glass give a sense of depth to your work. Remember to use a white adhesive as this brings out the true colour of the Waterglass. This is also true for the iridised line as many of the colours are semi translucent. The Waterglass is also excellent for making mosaic lamps and the like; just stick the tiles on to a glass base with silicone glue!
It is very difficult to give you satisfying images of these tiles. The colours often vary very much within one full sheet and especially the iridised tiles don’t photograph very well as they twinkle and sparkle when you move the slightest bit. Obviously that is the whole point of them, and mosaics in general! They don’t work anyway near as well as still lifes. They come to life when you see them live with the light playing on all the little, twinkling, precious surfaces.
You will absolutely fall in love with these tiles. They are just gorgeous!
Cut with wheeled nippers only.
The tiles are flat on both sides and there is 11 sheets to the m2.

BISAZZA (vitreous glass 2x2 cm)
VIVA’s premium quality vitreous glass tiles also come from Italy with the world renowned brand name Bisazza. The tiles are manufactured by machine and primarily used for covering swimming pools and bath rooms. Bisazza tiles will also be known from home decor magazines where particularly the golden veined tiles in Series 4 always stand out for their exclusive and luxurious look. Please note that particularly Series 4 vary from batch to batch.
The series numbers refer to the price of the raw materials used in the production and hence the selling price. With glass light blues and whites are always cheaper and true pinks the most expensive colours as there is gold in the production of them. This quality material in beautiful deep colours represents an ideal way to experimenting with your own designs as they are easy to trim and cut. The back side of the vitreous tiles is rippled in order to key the adhesive.
Cut with side biters or wheeled nippers.
1 kg equals about 1,5 sheets of 225 tiles, about 1.5 sq feet. There is 9.7 sheets to a m2.

JJ CRYSTAL (vitreous glass 2x2 cm)
A nice alternative to Bisazza tiles are vitreous glass tiles from China, JJ Crystal. The quality is not as wonderful as the tiles from Bisazza, but the price is unbeatable - it is almost half the price. They tend to shatter more but will represent the best value for money quality on the market. VIVA carries these tiles as a mix only. The tiles are slightly lighter than the Bisazza tiles and will thus longer per kg.

MOSAIX (vitreous glass 1x1 cm)
Bisazza also do 1x1 cm tiles but they are impossible to get hold of unless one wants 2 m2 per colour so VIVA has to make do with the 1x1 cm tiles from Mosaix. Great about the 1x1 cm tiles is fact that they do not require cutting which make them ideal for children from about 8 years. These tiles also come from China and are not quite as good as the JJ but they come loose and by the individual colours, which is nice and easy. 100 g gives you about 150 tiles or about 7 kg to the m2.

MOSAIX MIRROR TILES (glass 2x2 cm and 1x1 cm)
Mirror tiles are always a nice a sparkly feature!

MOSAIX SOFT PEBBLES (fused glass 0.5-2.5 cm ø)
The Mosaix Soft Pebbles are fused and domed irregular shaped glass with no sharp corners. They are made of clear glass with the colour applied on the bottom only. This gives a wonderful sense of the depth to the tile and they mix back with other types of tiles very well. These pebbles are about 5 mm thick and the irregular sides can be as little as about 0.5 cm and as long as about 2.5 cm.
100 g gives you about 50-60 pebbles. No cutting. Suitable for children.
