Arendse tells about this community project: “The users of Thanet Mind had been given a grant to make a mosaic for their club house. They had also lately just got themselves a brand new conservatory and given the reflective nature of mosaic there wouldn’t be a better place for a mosaic than this room flooded in light. We decided to make some lovely, lush (and low maintenance) flowers that would brighten up the conservatory summer and winter. I recommended tulips as their simple shape was lending itself for MDF cut outs and harmonious lines in the mosaics.
We all drew lots of lots of tulips and decided on the above drawing by K and what scale to work to. I adapted the selected drawing so that it would be suitable for cut outs and had 2 sets cut. If we only did as little a one tulip or one set of tulips over the 10 weeks we had for the project, we would still have a piece to show. However, the Thanet Mind users were very motivated and we did the full two sets of tulips, one for each side of the conservatory, on time and on budget. During the project it said this many times and I can only say is again: Well done everybody!”
