Metal base
This black painted metal table base made in China is a great way to make your own personal mosaic item for your home or conservatory. The base will also go outside in the garden but like anything else left outside, it will wear much quicker than if it was kept indoors and will soon need maintenance (a rub down and a coat of metal paint).

The metal base has been featured with thorough instructions and images in the mosaic project book Mosaic Craft by Martin Cheek with co-writer Arendse Plesner (VIVA mosaics).
The very short version of how to do it is like this: make your mosaic using the indirect method, fill the metal base with tile adhesive, place the mosaic in the adhesive (Adesilex P10 works), let it go off and grout it.

The bases are sold off at half price as end of line item as the quality has been going down over the years whilst shipping costs have gone up and they have stopped making sense to stock. Hence, some of these listing has errors in the welding along the sides, please scroll down to see images of the type of fault meant. The overall look was always rustique and once made made up, Arendse personally doesn't think it matters, but it has to be mentioned.

Orsoni smalti tiles, 2x2 cm and about 5mm thick
VIVA has got hold of a batch of smalti tiles that can be offered at HALF THE PRICE of the regular briquettes. Smalti is always supposed to be used with the “broken” side up, and these cut well into 3 sticks each and will blend with the briquettes just fine, please see the frame of Byzantine Tree. If you decide to use them flat side up, please be aware, that some tiles has ridges that will take grout in; have a look at the yellow to see what is meant. The two very dark browns are very very similar, you can hardly tell the difference even in bright sunlight. One colour seem to be chunkier as a tile though.
As with the other smalti they are sold as bags of 100g. If you want 5 kg you just order 5 x 100g and . Reordering can only take place as long as stock lasts.
