Sicis Tiles

The Italian manufacturer Sicis makes some of the finest quality mosaic tiles in the world.
Sicis produces tiles in 3 lines:

Sicis Iridium are a dazzling subtle pallet of oxide coloured tiles coated with an oil on water effect fused to the surface of the glass
Sicis Waterglass are translucent tiles with a built in crackle effect, again the pallet is beautiful &
Sicis Murano Smalto based on original smalti recipes are opaque and richly coloured tiles

The Sicis tiles are 1.5 x 1.5 cm and 3-3.5 mm thick, beautifully coloured and easy to cut to precision with wheeled nippers. They are water, frost and UV resistant and will not fade. The three lines can be mixed in you mosaic work as the pallets of the 3 lines complement each other. Mixing in the translucent glass gives a sense of depth to your work. Remember to use a white adhesive as this brings out the true colour of the Waterglass. This is also true for the iridised line as many of the colours are semi-translucent. The Waterglass is also excellent for making mosaic lamps and the like. Stick the tiles on to a glass base with silicone glue!
It is very difficult to give you satisfying images of these tiles. The colours often vary very much within one full sheet and especially the iridised tiles don’t photograph very well as they twinkle and sparkle when you move the slightest bit. Obviously that is the whole point of them, and mosaics in general! They don’t work anyway near as well as still lifes. They come to life when you see them live with the light playing on all the little, twinkling, precious surfaces.
You will absolutely fall in love with these tiles. They are just gorgeous!
