Tuesday mornings & Tuesday nights 2008
If you are local to Ramsgate, Arendse runs classes on Tuesday mornings from 9.30-12.00 and Tuesday nights from 19-21.30 in her studio. If you are interested in joining please don’t hesitate to call her about this on 01843 581183. New subscription round for the winter term starts on Jan 15 and runs the following dates, a total of 10 sessions:

Creative day, full day mosaic sessions
For people who are or has been a regular at Arendse’s courses. Here you will get a good chance to really get on with your latest project. Please bring a lovely dish for the lunch buffet.

1 day workshops, beginners or glass-on-glass

All courses run from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm with a wonderful lunch, morning and afternoon tea and coffee included in the course fee. Please inform of any individual dietary requirements. The studio is large, light and lovely with French doors to a great terrace facing south towards the sea. The venue is Arendse’s private studio and web shop which always carries an extensive stock and range of numerous mosaic materials. You are always welcome to bring your own materials. To ensure the students receive lots of individual attention and help numbers are limited to a maximum of 8. Do remember that making mosaics in a detailed thorough way is very time consuming but is also a very rewarding process that will result in an end product that will give you lasting pleasure. In other words: the courses are not as much about what you finish but more importantly what you learn, which will equip you to continue making mosaics on your own, long after you have finished this course.
Arendse runs two kinds of courses, a 1 day beginner’s course and a 1 day glass on glass course. However, she is always happy to look at your portfolio, teach you how to set in a mosaic table top or how to make a paving slap.
1 day Beginners Taster Course with Arendse
For absolute mosaic beginners
Sorry! No workshops in 2008. This course is an inspiring taster for those completely new to mosaics. Without too much effort or too great a financial investment you get to try mosaic making hands-on in order to see if you like it and to decide whether it is the craft for you. During this one day workshop, mosaicist Arendse will introduce you to the various materials, adhesives, bases and tools; go through cutting and grouting techniques and basically guide you through the creation of your first mosaic. She provides a range of well proved, tried and tested designs for you, thus you should be able to finish a mosaic of 20 x 20 cm, so that you can concentrate on choosing the colours, cutting and laying techniques. This 1 day taster should enable you to take on more complicated projects on your own and gently lead you into the fascinating, colourful world of mosaics.

1 day Glass on Glass Course with Arendse
For people new to working glass on glass
Sorry! No workshops in 2008. You may or may not have experience with mosaic making already. What this workshop focuses on is mixing the techniques of mosaic with the wonderful translucent quality of stained glass. You will thus be able to decorate lampshades, vases, wind lights and panels allowing the light to shine through your piece without having to deal with all the difficult and poisonous leading of traditional stained glass. During this one day workshop, mosaicist Arendse will introduce you to the various materials, adhesives, bases and tools; go through cutting and grouting techniques and in doing so, guide you through your first glass on glass mosaic(s). She provides a range of glass bases and designs to choose from. Depending on the size of the glass base and the difficulty of your pattern or design, you may be able to finish more than one piece during this workshop.

1 week Summer School - Mosaics for the garden

2007 Missenden Abbey, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.
Projects can be tables, chairs, slabs, murals or pots. You are also welcome to bring your own project and for a whole week just absorb into the dazzling world of mosaics with the rest of the group. If you are new to mosaics this will also give you the basic technique of mosaicing in general and you will be introduced to the various materials, adhesives, bases and tools needed.
We shall talk about how to design in mosaics and how to execute the design. Depending on the size and the difficulty of your project, you may be able to finish more than one piece during the week.
For further inspiration we will take a look at a number of grand garden mosaics from around the world. Arendse will make sure that both beginners and advanced mosaicists will get lots of inspiration and individual attention to bring them forward with their mosaicing.
