“The mosaics are made for a BAMM (British Association for Modern Mosaic) Miniature Exhibition in Fishbourne Roman Palace July 15 - Aug 12 2007 where mosaics called for has got the theme “Inspired by Rome”. I have previously been inspired by jewellery in my work and went looking for something Roman that caught my eye. The Roman were here for nearly 400 years (43 AD to 410 AD) and left an enormous amount of evidence of their way of lives behind. At the British Museum’s vast collections I came across a pair of fun and striking enameled brooches found in Faversham, Kent, just and hour away form where I live. The brooch here originally came in a chained together pair for holding together a cloak - and most probably also to show off wealth. You can see the pin coming across from right to right.” Arendse says.
