Always wanted to have a go at mosaics? The Martin Cheek mosaic kits are “a course in a kit” and will start you off really well.
The kits are made from beautifully coloured glass tiles with the Chinese vitreous glass, JJ Crystal, as the basic material. Particular to Martin Cheek’s style, the designs are peppered with specialty tesserae, which make these mosaic kits unique: gold veined vitreous glass from Bisazza, Venetian hand made gold leaf smalti and / or Venetian handmade glass beads (millefiori).
The kits are packed attractively and contains everything needed to make up the mosaic project. However, you also need pair of mosaic nippers, wheeled or side-biters, to complete the project. All kits contain of:

  • Carbon paper
  • 9 mm MDF board
  • PVA glue pen

Side Biter Nippers
These side biters are excellent value for money and will serve you well. They are fine for having a go with the kits, then you can always upgade to the fine glass cutters above when you find you really love mosaicing.
When you get more into mosaics the side biters are the better choice for tougher tiles such as ceramics. Because you apply the pressure to crack the tile from the side inwards you have less control than with the wheeled nippers and it is difficult to cut diagonals.
When these nippers finally get blunt they have had it. You will know when your tiles start to scatter more and you have less control than you normally have.
