VIVA’s range of Natural Tiles
WINCKLEMAN
VIVA carries a range of more natural looking tiles as a contrast to all the bright and shiny glass. The bread and butter here is the unglazed ceramic 2 x 2 cm Winckleman tiles that mix well with the vitreous glass and is rather reasonable in price.
The palette of these French branded Winckleman tiles is limited to 32 natural colours. The tiles are very hard wearing, frost proof and they are smooth on both sides. They are non reflective which makes them excellent to use for backgrounds as they pull back next to any motif in shiny glass, that hence will appear to come forward. The uniform colour and non reflective surface give them a tendency to look flat if used in solid areas. Therefore peppering with 1 or 2 other nuances than the main colour is always a good tip.
Unglazed ceramic tiles are toucher than the glass but still fairly easy to cut with side biters. 15x15/225 tiles cover a square foot.
NATURAL STONE
VIVA’s natural stone range consist of 12 colours in 1x1 cm and 2x2 cm tiles, hight about 3 mm. The finish is matte and the tiles are smoothe on both sides and cut very well with the side biters. The natural stone range has a wonderful natural air about it and blends in beautifully with the with the Winckleman tiles.
Natural stone is porous, some colours more than others, and therefore delicate and not suitable for outside. To protect them and also to achieve the true colour you need to treat them with oil or marble polish, but they can also be used as they are. Here they are photographed ‘au naturel’, not treated.
As they are a natural product they are all more or less different with individual veining and therefore they bring a wonderful play and life to a mosaic. Particularly the browns, light browns, dark greens, greys and red with white provide great variety in the colouring.
100 g of 1x1 cm tiles give you approximately 100 tiles, 100 g of the 2x2 cm tiles gives you approximately 24 tiles. This means that you need 1 kg to cover a square foot.
