Mosaic Books
Appealing both to beginners and more experienced mosaic artists alike, Mosaics in a Weekend (1997) and Making Mosaics (2000) are fabulous collections of original projects and inspirational ideas for mosaics to make for the home. Both indoor and outdoor mosaics are featured, in a wide range of styles and techniques. Some projects use vitreous glass and ceramic tiles, while others feature ‘found objects’ such as pebbles, broken ceramic, beads, buttons and shells. A gallery of finished pieces complements the practical projects, providing further design ideas for those who wish to continue expanding their repertoire. Written with infectious enthusiasm, these exciting and original books are the first to present a variety of quick, practical projects to make at home in just a few days. Mosaics in a Weekend and Making Mosaics are illustrated throughout in full colour with step-by-step photographs and clearly written instructions.

Design Sourcebook Mosaics (1998) is a book of inspiration and design and shows a number of Martin’s work up until 1997 as well as the work of 45 fellow artists. Martin Cheek’s latest book Mosaic Art: Design & Inspiration (2002) is the first full monograph of his work and shows the artist at the peak of his profession and creative talents. The artist has included for the first time some of his initial design work. These are not meant to be seen as works of art in their own right but moreover working drawings, shown here in order to help demonstrate how the creative process of making a mosaic works. This new volume tackles the problem of how to progress, once the basic skills of mosaic making have been learnt. Many of the commissions included have taken months to complete, making the work shown an inspiration for all mosaic artists, admirers and makers of public art alike.

Tip: for not just more books on mosaics but we dare say ALL books on mosaics and tiles please visit Buckland Books. Chris is a lovely and very helpful, dedicated man who knows his stuff. If it is available he has got it. Difficult to obtain elsewhere, certainly in the UK, is i.e. the annual catalogue from the Mosaic School in Spilimbergo, Northern Italy. Those catalogues are highly recommended by Arendse as they hold some of the most exciting work created in modern mosaics today.
The book is a new step by step book with new techniques and tips for making exciting mosaics things for your home. The book also features a number of Arendse’s projects including glass on glass technique. The book appeals to both beginners and advanced mosaicists and contains a very nice gallery section for study and inspiration.
